Coach, what’s with all of the turnovers?

“We have not done a good job of maintaining the football. We have had untimely fumbles that have lessened our scoring opportunities. We have had interceptions that have bounced to the opponent with none coming our way. That’s the way the game goes sometimes. We are focusing on this with our players and we are demanding execution offensively. If things just go as they are drawn up we will score as expected and we will get back to winning.”

“Is Tulsa really that good? What can we expect in Tulsa?” John – In Edmond

What you are seeing in Tulsa is a veteran team that is playing very well. I am not surprised they have started out quickly (3-0) because they are a talented team. We will need our top effort to beat them. Hopefully we’ll have quite a few Yard Dawgz fans who can make the trip to support us.

“Coach, with the opening game just ahead could you give us a quick preview?” Paul – OKC

We learned a little about our team during our scrimmage last Saturday. This was the first time we were able to go full speed with live tackling. We had some good and bad moments. I think this season sets up for us just about like what I would expect. The challenge for most af2 teams is developing good, consistent line play. They aren’t the sexy receivers but a good line both on offense and defense can set you up to win many ballgames. The “bigs” are coming along and it will be good for them to hit someone else. Someone to watch will be #50, Eddie Reuscher. He has good size and is very athletic. I expect good pressure from him on quarterbacks this season. Our DBs are all experienced and I have been impressed with DonTa Bright and Andre Burns. Both bring passion and excitement to our defense. Offensively it will be interesting to see how our QBs work against Arkansas. I know they are tired of seeing our defense. Both Evan Gray and Josh Stewart have had good moments in camp and could lead this team. Our most experienced and perhaps talented position is at wide receiver. Al Hunt, Chris Archie, and Danny Howard all had over 1000 yard receiving in the league last season and they provide excellent targets for our QBs.

"Coach, can you give us a camp update after the first week of practice?" From John in El Reno...

Everything is new to all of our guys so we are in a learning curve. We do have experienced players at most positions so they are adjusting well. I am particularly pleased with our secondary as they are playing well together and constantly challenging the offense. Our quarterbacks are getting their first taste of the new "Jack" movement rule which presents some problems with their reads. I expect big things from our offense as we have very talented receivers. Unfortunately our schedule and facilities availability did not allow us to scrimmage another team in camp so April 5th will be the first time we can measure ourselves against another team. We will learn alot about our team on opening night.

How will television impact the 2008 Yard Dawgz?
“Television will be tremendous for our team. We will be able to expose Yard Dawgz arenafootball to a far greater audience and I think our fan base will grow significantly. In addition to watching from home, fans will be able to see our games at sports bars and restaurants throughout Oklahoma. I think that is pretty cool and TV certainly will make people in our community more aware of our team and what is going on at Ford Center. I think by seeing the entertainment we present during our games that many fans will come and see our game in person. Our players will benefit from much greater exposure too. Our sponsors and corporate partners will benefit with the advertising reach. Overall TV is a win-win situation for the team, the fans, and our partners.”

"The biggest thing all af2 and AFL coaches are wondering about for this season is how the new 'Jack out of the box' rule will affect the overall game. I've now been to three Dallas Desperados practices and scrimmages and I think we will see some tremendous athletic plays from the Jack position. I think fans can expect to actually see some improved defense and scoring may be down a bit too."

From Dawg Man
Coach,
In the past the Jack has been a receiver. Will this be the same approach used this year?
Thanks!

From Coach Reasons
Hey Dawg!
You obviously watch the game and your observations are correct. We hope to use different types of skilled athletes at the Jack position to accomplish our defensive/team goals. We can only dress 19, so this person must be flexible.
